Artificial Dumb is a comfort and humanity layer, created to continue the tradition of traditional, old-school automated content, in contrast to (and as a way of mediating contributions from) large language models.

Examples of Artifical Dumb Tools

- User:HearThatWhistleBlow - an automated parser which is applied to feeds, to ensure that meaningful metadata (such as y'all's names, when you appear on your favorite podcasts!) appear as links. This is being developed to include jams, shows, and other events of significance for which there is a dumb calendar which can be artificial dumb parsed. See: Bluegrass Podcast Firehose

- User:BlueRailroad Import - Watches a few metadata locations relevant to your band's contributions and merch and whatnot. Watches delivery-kid and posts an audit of any files which appear to be unexpectedly unavailable. Watches several blockchains, and updates metadata about your band's onchain merch, if you have any.

But Why Artificial Dumb Tho

- In short, Pickipedians want all of the structured content to be dispassionate, raw, 'whole-grain data', and not subject to language inference and stochastic amendments - ie, LLM slop. Even unstructured content needs to match a stylistic and humane protocol, perhaps often unspoken. To the degree that this can be automated in an Artificial Dumb way, that's probably better than using an inference engine.

- Artifical Dumb tools are easy to archive and can be easily read and understood by far future readers (human and AI alike). A core part of the pickipedian way is to imagine bluegrass and old time and whatnot being vibrant in 10,000 years, and lubricating the path to that future.

So what, is there a ban on bots then?

- Heck no. We love bots. The Artifical Dumb tools referenced above _are bots_.

- We also love LLM contributors; this is not an anti-LLM rant. User:Magent is a long-running conversational record, meant to turn an LLM engine into a persistent, thoughtful collaborative partner, and we have come to value its contributions very much. However, our best work together is when Magent creates Artificial Dumb tools which make Pickipedia a better place for readers, human and bot alike.

Did you mean to call it 'Artificial Dumbness', to contrast from 'Artificial Intelligence'?

Nah. Artificial Dumb can't tell the difference anyway.
