So many exchanges, which one are you actually supposed to use? Before you rush and confuse yourself, take a seat.
If you're new to crypto, don't choose an exchange simply because everyone on @X is using it or promoting it.
An exchange isn't something you should choose because it's trending.
Before creating an account or depositing your money, there are a few things you should check.
𝟏. 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘
Very important, does the exchange offer:
• 2FA • Withdrawal security controls • Login/device alerts • Anti-phishing features • Proof-of-reserves or other transparency measures?
Security isn't something to investigate after you lose your funds, check it before you deposit.
𝟐. 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐒
Exchanges make money from fees.
• Trading fees: what you pay when buying or selling.
• Withdrawal fees: what you pay when moving crypto out.
• Deposit fees: whether depositing your preferred payment method costs anything.
And don't only look at the headline fee, the actual cost can also depend on the trading pair, payment method, spread and network you're using.
𝟑. 𝐋𝐈𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐃𝐈𝐓𝐘
This one is often ignored by beginners. Liquidity simply refers to how easily an asset can be bought or sold without significantly moving its price.
An exchange with deeper liquidity can generally make it easier to execute larger trades closer to the displayed market price.
You don't need to become a market expert today, just understand that “𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒊𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅” doesn't automatically mean you'll get a good execution.
𝟒. 𝐀𝐕𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐓𝐒 & 𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐒
Maybe you want to buy USDT, but which network?
• Ethereum? • Solana? • Tron/Gram? • BNB?
The exchange may support the asset but not necessarily every network you want.
Always check the supported deposit and withdrawal network before sending funds.
Sending an asset through an unsupported network can create serious problems.
𝟓. 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒
An exchange available to someone in another country may not offer exactly the same services to you.
Features can differ based on:
• Country/region • Local regulations • Payment methods • Verification requirements • Available assets • Deposit and withdrawal options
So don't copy someone's setup blindly, check what is actually available where you live.
6. 𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓
Nobody plans to have a problem, until they have one, before putting serious money on a platform, know how you'll contact support if:
• Your withdrawal gets delayed.
• Your account gets restricted.
• You send a transaction and need help.
• Your payment fails.
Good customer support doesn't eliminate risk, but knowing how to reach the platform matters.
𝟕. 𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐄𝐗𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄
An exchange can be useful for trading, but remember what we discussed on the first lesson:
• When you leave your crypto on a centralized exchange, you're trusting that platform with your assets.
For long-term holdings, some people choose self-custody instead, that introduces a different responsibility:
• You become responsible for protecting your wallet and recovery phrase.
So the question isn't simply which exchange is the best? But which exchange fits what I need, and have I checked the risks?
That's the mindset I want you to develop throughout this series.
• Don't follow the crowd. • Don't deposit because someone shilled a platform.
