Ask HN: Are requests/demands coming from AI companies for regulation genuine?

Lately I have been hearing a lot of people from AI companies asking for regulation and expressing fear on AI's capabilities. Are these genuine, or do they now realize that there is a financial bubble and they are trying to deflate it a bit?It seems that it is too late for regulation to kick in. It has to be an international body and it will take forever to come to a consensus and give this body some teeth. On the other hand, if the growth is exponential, it is not surprising that you notice too late to do anything substantial.How can we tell if these requests are genuine or not? I am inclined to think that they are, after listening to the CNN interview; but it sounds so strange.
