- Most discussion around India semiconductors is still around who is building the fab / OSAT.

- But from an investor’s perspective, there is another layer worth tracking

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗯 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆?

ISM 1.0 projects alone could create $𝟭𝟮-𝟭𝟯 𝗕𝗻 of equipment demand.

A fab first needs 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀, 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗿𝗮-𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, equipment support, precision components, automation, testing & engineering.

Then, as production ramps, the opportunity moves towards 𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 and 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴.

So there are potentially 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 here. - 𝗙𝗮𝗯 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲. - 𝗙𝗮𝗯 𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

But there is an important distinction:

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 ≠ 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Installing equipment gives you capacity.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 → 𝗬𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 → 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 → 𝗨𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

is what converts that capacity into 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 & 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀.

That is also how I would map the listed opportunity:

1 | 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻 → EMS + precision assemblies 2 | 𝗦𝘆𝗿𝗺𝗮 𝗦𝗚𝗦 → EMS + PCB + electronic subassemblies 3 | 𝗞𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗲𝘀 / 𝗖𝗚 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 → more direct OSAT exposure 4 | 𝗔𝗦𝗠 → semiconductor engineering + automation 5 | 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗽 → chip design + IP optionality 6 | 𝗟&𝗧 → longer-term semiconductor product optionality.

What I find particularly interesting in 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻 & 𝗦𝘆𝗿𝗺𝗮 is that semiconductor doesn't need to become their core business immediately.

Their existing EMS/component capabilities can potentially participate 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁, making semiconductor an incremental optionality rather than the entire thesis.

So instead of tracking every semiconductor announcement, my validation chain would be:

𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 → 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 → 𝗣𝗢 → 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 → 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿.

That is when 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 → 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
