Mark Zuckerberg said Meta’s new enterprise unit would initially focus on bringing the company’s ‘full technology stack’ to businesses and developers.

Tech giant Meta is hiring the CEO of MongoDB to lead the newly launched ‘Meta Enterprise Platform’, which it described yesterday (28 September) as the next major pillar of its business and one aiming to “help businesses use AI to grow and transform in new ways”.

“Meta Enterprise Platform will use our strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, leading agents, large-scale infrastructure and years of working closely with many businesses,” Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg said.

The new role of chief enterprise platform officer will be filled by Chirantan Desai, who had worked at US software development company MongoDB as its president and CEO for around 10 months.

“Over the coming years, AI will fundamentally redefine how organisations of all sizes innovate, grow, serve customers and run business operations,” said Desai.

“Meta has a unique role to play because it is bringing together advanced models and leading agents with a proven track record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale.

“Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses.”

Desai previously spent around 14 months as Cloudflare’s president of product and engineering, and more than seven years at ServiceNow culminating in a spell as its president and COO.

Zuckerberg added that Meta’s new enterprise pillar would initially focus on bringing the company’s “full technology stack” – including various AI agents and APIs – to businesses and developers.

Meanwhile, New York-based MongoDB has appointed Dev Ittycheria as its interim president and CEO while it conducts a search for its next permanent leader.

Ittycheria, who previously spent 11 years up to 2025 as the company’s president and CEO, said he was “honoured” to be reprising the roles.

“I look forward to working with our leadership team and thousands of talented employees around the world to move quickly, execute with focus and continue delivering exceptional value to our customers,” he added.

The company said it remains confident in its business outlook and was “reaffirming its guidance for Q3 and the full year fiscal 2027” that it provided on 1 September.

“MongoDB’s business is strong, and there is no better person to take on the role of president and CEO in the interim than Dev Ittycheria,” said Tom Killalea, chair of MongoDB’s board.

“He knows this company deeply, has remained an involved and active executive board member over the past year, and will step in immediately to ensure a seamless transition.”

In April, the company announced plans to invest €74m in its Irish operations across engineering, AI development and operational growth activities, with the intention of creating 200 new jobs.
