NEAR has actually been building for years, from chain abstraction to privacy, and it seems people are finally giving them the praise they deserve.
The main feature is NEAR Intents. You make an intent like "hey, I wanna swap my SOL on Solana into USDC on Arbitrum" and solvers compete to fill it in the most efficient way. It's now routed over $30B in total volume, a pretty big achievement.
What they're also building: • Onchain exchange - trade any asset from any chain without bridging or worrying about gas, thanks to NEAR accounts and Intents • Confidential swaps - dark pool-style trading for DeFi, amounts, routes and the sender stay off the public chain • Confidential perps - just launched with Hyperliquid underneath, fund from whatever you already hold on any chain and nobody can trace the position back to your wallet • AI - NEAR AI already runs private inference in Brave and Venice, and Stripe and Tempo's payment protocol for AI agents now runs on NEAR Intents • Zcash x NEAR - NEAR gives $ZEC crosschain rails and liquidity, and a chunk of confidential TVL is ZEC sitting in the private shard • Intents Connect - apps can now target users on any chain, not just their own
@ilblackdragon's (NEAR co-founder) mission is: people own their assets, data and power of choice. AI is the frontend, blockchain is the backend.
