Am I beating the market?

Enter what you put in and when, plus what your portfolio is worth now. You’ll get your money-weighted return (XIRR) — the return that actually accounts for your timing — and can compare it to any annualized benchmark return you enter.

Money you put in

One row per deposit (or lump sum). Date + amount you invested.

Deposits only. This page takes money going in, not money coming out — it cannot accept a withdrawal, a sale you took cash out of, or a negative amount. If you have withdrawn, enter your deposits here and read the result as an approximation; the exact figure needs the withdrawal on its own date, which is what the Tradune app does on your real transactions.

Why “money-weighted”?

There are two honest ways to measure a portfolio’s return, and they answer different questions:

- Money-weighted return (MWRR / XIRR) — the single annual rate that makes all your deposits and withdrawals, on the dates they happened, add up to today’s value. It reflects your actual experience, including whether you added money at good or bad times. This is the number that answers “how did I do?”

- Time-weighted return (TWR) — strips out the effect of your deposit timing, so it measures the strategy or fund, not your cash-flow decisions. It’s what a fund quotes, and it’s the fair way to compare against a benchmark that had no deposits.

“Am I beating the market?” is really a money-weighted question — but a fair comparison also feeds the same deposits, on the same dates, into the benchmark. That needs the benchmark’s price history, which we don’t publish here — so this tool computes your XIRR and lets you drop in an annualized benchmark figure you’ve looked up. For the exact “same deposits into a buy-and-hold SPY twin” comparison, that’s what the Tradune app does on your real holdings.

0 = Σ cashflowᵢ ÷ (1 + XIRR)^(daysᵢ/365)

Illustrative calculation from the figures you entered — not a forecast, a benchmark quote, or financial advice. Your figures never leave the page — the calculation runs entirely in your browser. The page loads standard pageview analytics, which never sees your numbers.

This math stops at what you typed in.

Tradune runs it continuously on your real holdings — with your money-weighted return next to a buy-and-hold SPY twin, and SEC insider filings flagged on the stocks you own.
