What exactly is Vangrid building?
Vangrid is building a decentralized network for collecting and verifying spatial data from the physical world.
Spatial data is basically information about physical environments their structure, geometry, objects and surroundings.
That becomes important when you move from AI that only works with digital information to AI that has to operate in the real world.
A robot navigating a warehouse, for example, needs to understand the space around it. A photo alone doesn’t give you the full spatial context.
Vangrid’s approach is to use smartphones to capture these environments and turn those captures into structured spatial representations, including point clouds and Gaussian splats.
The other part is provenance.
Vangrid uses blockchain infrastructure such as Base, Ethereum Attestation Service and Merkle batching to record and verify information associated with the captures.
So the system can be thought of as:

And that’s the part I find worth understanding.
Because if Physical AI and robotics are going to operate in the real world, they need more than better models.
They need better information about the world they’re operating in.
