## @VanquishTrader (VanquishTrader) · 09-15 13:36 · ♥31 ↻0 💬8 THE BOND MARKET IS NOW THE BIGGEST RISK TO THE AI TRADE

The 10 year Treasury just hit its highest level since 2007 near 5% and the bigger signal is what is driving it. BMO says the one month correlation between WTI and the 10 year has reached 0.96, so long term yields are trading almost directly with oil and Middle East supply risk right now, which means the Fed has much less control over the long end than people assume.

At a 5% risk free rate the hurdle rises for every asset whose cash flows sit years in the future. We saw that in 2023 when the 10 year approached 5% and the S&P gave back roughly half its year to date gain, while higher duration names are already taking much larger hits today and a stronger dollar adds another headwind for large caps with meaningful overseas revenue.

The AI angle is the one I think people are missing. Treasury borrowing is already competing with more than $1.5T of AI related corporate issuance for the same capital, so the industry is effectively helping push up the rate used to discount its own future cash flows. Every additional gigawatt still needs to be financed and every major hyperscaler capex guide says that financing demand is only getting larger.

So the real question is not whether the 10 year briefly touches 5% but whether it stays there. A sustained 5% handle means higher mortgages, more expensive corporate refinancing and tougher returns on new data center projects, while even a dovish Fed hike may not fix the problem if oil and inflation stay elevated. If 5% holds, the next major area is roughly 5.25% to 5.28% from the 2006 and 2007 highs. https://x.com/VanquishTrader/status/2099854923169231208
