European companies have traditionally been built on a foundational conviction that mastery is worth pursuing for its own sake, that a business should think long-term, and that customers, employees and the wider community are key stakeholders in what is being built. That conviction has carried Europe through several generations of technological developments.
But Europe has lost ground in the technologies that are shaping the modern global economy. At the start of this century, 41 of the world's 100 most valuable companies were European. Today, just 15 are.
Artificial intelligence represents a paradigm shift, redistributing advantages and offering Europe a critical opportunity to seize the initiative and build new champions to match those being built in the US and China. It will only succeed in doing so however, if its role goes beyond adoption, and into shaping and developing the technology. This opportunity represents a space that we want to fill with our ambition.
A technological centre of gravity
Today, more than 13,000 organisations open Langdock every morning. With Chat, Agents and Workflows, AI has become part of their everyday work. From this Autumn, Langdock is building and shipping for more of the work people do, supporting the decisions, systems and routines that shape how organisations operate:
- Meetings. An AI notetaker in the platform where teams already work to effortlessly power decisions and actions.
- Apps. So anyone can turn a workflow into an application their colleagues can use, without leaving the interfaces they already know.
- Code. A model-agnostic code editor for the teams that build the system the company runs on.
Langdock’s platform is powered by Auto Mode, our proprietary model router, making sure you get the best model for each task. We believe that nobody should have to learn a model catalogue. Model providers improve their models; we improve the whole system of work.
With more work moving onto our platform, we are also building the infrastructure underneath it.
- Cloud. Managed inference on our own infrastructure and data centre, open-source models, sandboxes and compute hosted under European law.
We are building Langdock on the principle of compound growth. Better results at lower cost move more work onto AI. Greater workloads drive more compute on European soil, which further improves the quality of AI workloads on Langdock and decreases their cost, thereby igniting the next wave of adoption.
Compute has to be built against demand, and in Europe that demand potential lies in the transformation of established enterprises. Langdock already aggregates this demand, providing an organisation-wide entry point into deep AI adoption. That demand grounds our ambition to build the next European hyperscaler.
Increasing organisation’s capacity to transform
Technology is only part of the transition. The value of artificial intelligence depends on whether organisations can use it to change how they work. They need room to explore, the confidence to learn, and a clear sense of what to do next.
We do not guarantee that things stay the same. In fact, we guarantee that they will change, and in light of the challenges our economy faces, we believe that they must. From Europe, for the world
We believe it is not only possible, but an economic, social and cultural imperative to build one of the biggest technology companies in the world from Europe.
We have put that conviction into action, restructuring from a US entity into a Societas Europaea, registered in Germany. It is 80% held by founders and employees resident in Europe.
Europe must aim higher and work harder to make sure that its share of the global AI stack is commensurate with the weight of this continent. While sovereignty is required to achieve this objective, it is not on its own sufficient. At Langdock, we are building a product that users around the world are choosing because it represents the strongest choice for organisational transformation, representing a leading enterprise AI platform on the critical benchmarks of efficiency, control and user experience.
We want customers to no longer have to choose between great technology and a sovereign, secure option. That is the bar we set ourselves.
That ambition comes with a responsibility to help AI go well. Its potential to improve people’s lives depends on getting safety right, working across borders and ensuring its benefits reach widely. We want our work to contribute to that outcome.
Europe needs more influence over how AI develops, whether that means moving faster or taking more care. Building technology that people around the world choose is part of earning that influence. For us, becoming more relevant in AI means taking a greater role in shaping its future, with care for the people whose lives it will change.
