Securitize's CEO went at xStocks and Coinbase this week, calling their onchain stocks synthetics. It's a bit harsh (pretty much in CT style), but he has a point.
A synthetic tracks an asset's value without giving you ownership of it. That's exactly what Ondo, xStocks, bStocks and Robinhood stocks are. There are real shares behind them, they just sit at a custodian, so you don't own them as an onchain holder.
None of this makes them unsafe to trade tho, it just means you should know what you're holding. I've traded my fair share with xStocks on Solana and stocks on Robinhood chain and am still pretty bullish on both, as they have their advantages, like large liquidity and DeFi integrations.
