Does it work offline?
Yes. Recording, transcription, and speaker labelling run on your Mac. Release installers include the models. The app also checks for updates and revoked licences when online; those requests do not contain your recordings. You can turn off automatic update checks in Settings.
How does the trial work?
The trial includes recording, transcription, speaker labels, and your local library. Each trial recording can last up to five minutes. At 5:00 it stops and saves everything captured. A US$79 one-time licence removes the recording limit.
What does a licence include?
Unlimited recording length on covered versions, use on up to five of your own Macs, and one year of updates. Versions released within your update window remain unlimited after it ends. There is no subscription. You can request a full refund within 30 days.
Which Macs can run it?
An Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later. A physical notch is optional: on other displays, Memory Notch appears as a capsule below the menu bar. The installer is about 1.6 GB because it includes the models; recordings need additional space.
Can it record both sides of a call?
Yes. It captures your microphone and system audio together, with your permission. macOS Screen Recording permission is needed for system audio, even when you are not saving a video. Keep the display awake during calls. For AirPods, choose your Mac’s built-in microphone.
Where are my recordings saved?
In ~/memory on your Mac. Each recording gets a folder containing its audio, transcript, and Markdown note, plus video if you enabled screen recording. You can open the files directly and keep them independently of the app.
Can I use the notes with my AI tools?
Yes, with a tool that has access to local files. Give it access to the recordings you choose. No Memory Notch API, MCP server, or export is required. If you send notes to a cloud AI service, that service’s data policy applies.
Does it generate summaries or search every spoken word?
Memory Notch records and transcribes conversations. Automatic summaries are not included. Library search looks at note titles and metadata; it is not full-transcript search. Speaker labels are numbered rather than names, and overlapping voices can be difficult to separate.
