AND APPARENTLY THE ATTACKERS DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO STEAL THE PRIVATE KEYS.
Bitget has increased the confirmed value of assets transferred to attacker-controlled addresses from $351.6M to: $387.5 MILLION.
The increase comes from additional Zcash and TRON assets identified during tracing — NOT another attack.
The vulnerability has now been identified and remediated, according to Bitget.
But here's the part everyone building the future of digital finance should be studying.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen says the attackers compromised a critical BACKEND system within the exchange's wallet infrastructure.
They allegedly spoofed transaction data.
The authorization system then approved the transfers.
The private keys themselves were NOT compromised.
Think about that.
THE VAULT DIDN'T HAVE TO BE BROKEN.
THE SYSTEM AUTHORIZING ACCESS TO THE VAULT WAS MANIPULATED.
