Warhammer 40k & Horus Heresy: The New Custodes Are Here In Force Across Two Timelines
The Emperor’s Finest steal the spotlight in both games this fall – check out the preview!
The summer of big gold guys isn’t quite over as the Custodes are receiving new models and supplements for use in both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: The Horus Heresy. It seems that most Custodes models are now in plastic and will be packaged with branding for both games.
Aquilon Terminators (30k and 40k)
Available for use in both the 31st and 41st Millennia, the Aquilon Terminators are the toughest of the already unstoppable Custodes. This kit includes everything necessary to field this unit in either game. I think this is the last major unit missing from Custodes armies (at least in Horus Heresy) and should pad out their force nicely for both games.
Codex: Adeptus Custodes
The third codex for 11th edition 40k is going to be for the Emperor’s Golden Boys. They’re receiving some nasty stat buffs that make even a base warrior the equal of a hero of the Space Marine chapters. However, they’re also receiving a major point increase to further shrink the already small armies of the Ten Thousand. As well, just as we’ve seen with the first codexes of the edition, this release will be accompanied by a Command Pack with reference cards for the army’s abilities as well as a set of punch-board tokens to track status effects during gameplay.
We got a sneak peek at a few of the beefy new statlines for both the Custodian Guard Sodality and the Aquilon Terminators. Comparing stat lines gives a good idea of just how intentionally brutal these guys are going to be. Truly the best-of-the-best-of-the-best. Toughness 7 with a 2+4+ save on “basic” infantry is truly crazy. It’s going to be interesting to see just how high those points get for this army and how small a viable army will become in terms of model count.
Combat Patrol: Adeptus Custodes (40k)
A potent force of Custodes for the small-format skirmish of Combat Patrol. Led by a shield captain, a core of six Sentinel Guard are supported by the fast-striking warriors of the Venatari, all backed up by the staggering power of a Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought. All three units also include the necessary parts to build their variant versions if you don’t want to use this set for games of Combat Patrol.
Journal Tactica: The Battle for the Signus Cluster (Horus Heresy)
The next installment of Journal Tactica supplements for the Horus Heresy follows up on the previous volume. Further exploring the Custodes in their secret war during the Heresy, this journal focuses on their battles against the daemons of Slaanesh. A new army list is included for Slaanesh daemon lists, and the lore details the Custodes’ battle against the Word Bearers and corrupted Auxilia of the 606th Cohort. It also includes new Custodes units and updated stat lines for the Gyrfalcon Jetbike Sodality.
I suspect this is the last we’re going to see of new Custodes models for a while, but both games should be in great shape to field these armies after this set of releases.
All that glitters is definitely gold today.
