Santa Monica Studio has just confirmed that pre-orders for God of War Laufey officially open tomorrow, September 29, at 10:00 AM local time, ahead of the game's previously announced February 16, 2027 launch on PlayStation 5.
Alongside the pre-order details, the studio has shared a first proper look at how Faye fights, and it appears to be a meaningful departure from Kratos' playbook. Let's start with the pre-order, though.
Pre-ordering God of War Laufey nets the following bonus items:
- Last Wish Armor Set
- Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance (cosmetic)
- In-game resource pack
The Digital Deluxe Edition also includes:
- Dark Alchemy Armor Set
- Dark Alchemy Blade
- Dark Alchemy Bow Scales
- Dark Alchemy Catalyst
- In-game resource pack
- Digital mini artbook
- Official digital soundtrack
All of the in-game items across both tiers are unlocked through story progression rather than being available from the start of the game. Santa Monica hasn't shared pricing for either edition in the announcement, but we’ll know for sure tomorrow once pre-orders go live.
Faye's Serpent Bow
The more interesting part of the developer update is Faye's new weapon. The Serpent Bow is an enchanted bow that shifts form like a snake, and it can switch from dormant to notched almost instantly, letting Faye weave arrows into her melee combos. According to Santa Monica, it's designed to work at both close and long range.
The bow has two firing modes tied to how far the player presses the aim trigger:
- Full-aim (precision mode): A full press gives Faye more accurate aim and a longer draw distance. Targeting specific body parts can impair an enemy's movement or attacks, creating an opening for a melee follow-up. Charging the bow stacks up to five arrows into a single powerful volley, which pairs well with Phranque's ability to launch enemies into the air.
- Half-aim (hip-fire mode): A half press drops Faye into a more mobile stance, firing a cluster of arrows for heavy damage at close range. This mode is built for juggling airborne enemies and extending combos while swapping between weapons and abilities.
On top of the two modes, Faye has access to several arrow types, including rapid fire, explosive and multi-target shots.
The developers also unveiled that in God of War Laufey, customization is achieved through three pieces of gear. Scales change both the Serpent Bow's appearance and its specialization through a unique perk, with the Digital Deluxe Edition's Dark Alchemy Bow Scales being one example. The bow also has its own unlockable skills. Blades are the customizable element of Faye's sword, while Catalysts are artifacts that channel the magic of the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods where the game takes place, each with different effects. Last but not least, armor sets will also offer gameplay perks and stats, along with distinct looks.
Santa Monica Studio has promised to share more information in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
